    Tanzania SGR project – Tanzania

    Brief:

Fialay International – FZCO was selected as the construction consultancy by the Main contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and China Railway Construction Company (CRCC) who both won the contract to build a 341-kilometre Standard Gauge railway (SGR) line connecting the Lake City of Mwanza to Isaka to provide Sub-Contract Procurement, Cash flow forecasts, Re-Measurement, Interim Valuations and Monthly Cost/Value Reconciliation.

    Key project:

The Tanzania Standard Gauge Railway is a railway system, under construction, linking the country to the neighboring countries of Rwanda and Uganda, and through these two, to Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as part of the East African Railway Master Plan. The new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), is intended to replace the old, inefficient meter-gauge railway system.

The railway system would consist of several major sections:

    Dar es Salaam–Morogoro Section

This section, measuring 300 kilometers (186 mi), was contracted to a 50/50 consortium comprising Yapi Merkezi of Turkey and Mota-Engil of Portugal. Construction began in April 2017. It is expected to have its first trials in April 2022. There will be six stations: Dar es Salaam, Pugu, Soga, Ruvu, Ngerengere and Morogoro.

    Morogoro–Makutopora Section

This section was also contracted to the consortium that is constructing the Dar es Salaam–Morogoro Section. The line stretches from Morogoro to the capital Dodoma and onward to Makutopora in Manyoni District, Singida Region. It measures 426 kilometers (265 mi). The work in this section as of February 2022 reached 81 percent done. The stations after Morogoro will be Mkata, Kilosa, Kidete, Gulwe, Igunda, Dodoma, Bahi and Makutopora.

    Makutupora–Isaka Section

This section, measuring 435 kilometers (270 mi), stretches from Makutupora in Singida Region through Tabora to Isaka. This section is divided to form two lots, one starts from Makutupora to Tabora and the other from Tabora to Isaka. The first part from Makutopora to Tabora has been awarded to Yapi Markezi and the work is in the mobilization stage.

    Isaka–Mwanza Section

This section, measuring approximately 341 kilometers (212 mi), takes the SGR line to the city of Mwanza, on the southern shores of Lake Victoria. China Civil Engineering Construction (CCEC) and China Railway Construction Company (CRCC), were selected to carry out the work. This work progress in this section is 4 percent done.

    Isaka–Rusumo Section

This stretch of the SGR is a component of the Isaka–Kigali Standard Gauge Railway, and measures approximately 371 kilometers (231 mi).

    Results:

The Fialay International – FZCO team continues to oversee Sub-Contract Procurement, Cash flow forecasts, Re-Measurement, Interim Valuations, and Monthly Cost/Value Reconciliation for the Main contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and China Railway Construction Company (CRCC)
